Lennie Lawrence took over the reigns as Luton manager on the 21st of December 1995, taking over from Terry Westley. His first game in charge saw the Hatters held to a 2-2 draw by Huddersfield at Kenilworth Road. Despite valiant efforts he could not prevent Luton from the dreaded drop into the Second Division |

The next season Lennie saw his Luton side challenge hard for promotion and looked as if he would take Town straight back up. However the Hatters finished the season in third spot and had to settle for a place in the play-offs. Promotion wasn't to be, Luton were beaten over two legs by Crewe Alexandra. |

Lennie enjoyed spells as a player with non-league Croydon, Carshaton Athletic and Sutton United. His first managerial role was assistant manager at Plymouth Argyle, where he was also caretaker manager, and at Lincoln, before becoming manager of Charlton Athletic in 1982. It was at Charlton where Lennie Lawrence made his name. He took the club into the top flight in 1986, keeping the London side there for four years. |

Lennie Lawrence left Charlton in 1991, after nine years with the club, He headed north to Middlesborough, where he took the Teeside club into the FA Premier League in 1992 in his first season with them. They returned to Division 1 in 1993, with Lennie Lawrence leaving in 1994, when Bryan Robson took over. He then joined Bradford City in May 1994, leaving Valley Parade in November of 1995. |
